Three cheap musical boxes (each one playing a subtly different version of "The Swagman"), manufactured in Dartmoor Prison, are sold at a local auction house. However, a criminal gang is determined to steal and recover all three, even if it means committing murder. Sherlock Holmes tries to recover the music boxes and crack the secret code contained in the tune before the gang can get what they want.

Subject: Holmes and Universal Pictures rule!
The uploader is too modest. This print isn't "slightly better quality." It is far and away the crispest version at IA (and superior to the Netflix rental).

I've always loved these Rathbone/Bruce adventures. Of course some are better than others; nevertheless all of them are fun. "Dressed to Kill" was the 14th and final film in the series, but you can't tell that by looking at it. The production values are high, and Universal's attention to detail and visual continuity was exceptional, especially considering it was produced as a second feature. So many long-running film series ended with a whimper - not this one!
